Default 2000 ZR2 with 5 speed -- pops out of first gear :-(

My very recently bought 2000 ZR2 5-speed is having a bunch of different problems. Ill stick with one at a time though! She has 103,000 miles.

When shifting into first gear from full stop, if I dont hold it in gear the shifter pops right out. I have to put pressure in order to keep it in gear. after that all other gears are smooth!

Does anyone know what the problem is?

damn! Oh well, at least I know what I am in for now. Thanks a lot!

There are other issues I cant figure out also:

1. there is a squeaky sound (sounds a bit like a worn bed during fornication) coming from the rear drivers side when i hit even the tiniest bump...

2. the motor has almost no power from 2000 to 3250 revs, struggles to move and even chokes a little. Could it be a tune-up is all it needs? I will do one anyway but I have a feeling this problem is bigger than just plugs, wires, and cap.

3. Can I replace Dexcool with Glycol based anti-freeze? I have heard lots of horror stories and I love this money pit like she was my only child.

# 1 is more than likely your rear hatch glass . You can adjutant the latch inside the rear gate, but a lazy way is to wrAp some tape around the latch on the glass side if that makes sense

as for the antifreeze, yes you can put the green stuff in but you have to COMPLETLEY flush out off of the dexcool with water then add the green stuff. if you mix the two it will create a gell like substance and will clog up your heater core, radiator and maybe even your engine. I have the green stuff running right now and havent had one problem with leaks or clogging. plus the green stuff is cheaper!!!

they sell the universe that can mix with any. I run that instead of the dexcool in all of my rides

#2 can be a clogged cat, air filter or fuel filter. Check your air filter, replace if need be. Replace the fuel filter and see how she runs. If still sluggish, check your cat.
