2001 Fuel Milage & Light

What kind of average fuel mileage & how many miles with the low fuel light?

GreenBlazer2002 12-04-2017 11:52 PM

If the light comes on, be within 10 miles of a gas station. Mileage varies depending on age/condition of vehicle and driving habits.

I never see that light....since the pump is cooled by the fuel ,I really don't feel like changing a pump because it wore out prematurely from heat. I average around 15 mpg in both of my 4.3l

mine is 2wd 260 k miles 18.93to 21.27. NEVER let light come on. i dont want to replace pump either. mostly highway at 70 mph

2nd gen blazers have the fuel pump mounted in a can that's constantly filled by the return line. Running on empty does not cause the pump to overheat because it's always submersed in fuel.

I replaced my tank and pump assembly last summer. Less than a gallon of gas in the new empty tank was enough to start the engine. The needle on the gauge read just below the red block above "E". Nice knowing if the needle is still in the red, I'm OK.

I get nervous when my light comes on...whenever I'm at 1/4 tank it drops pretty fast...

Just had new pump and tank installed couple months ago...

17mpg. Mine doesn't care if it runs low on fuel. Been below a gallon at fill ups routinely and the vehicle has run out of gas multiple times. Have gotten over 100,000 miles out of both fuel pumps (OEM then Delphi).

Good to know that the pumps are always cooled on the 2nd gen Blazers. I had to have my pump replaced on my old '92.

So why did you have to have your tank and pump replaced? At what mileage?

I get around 12 to 14 in my small town (25k people) and up to 17 to 18 on the highway. Lower in the winter a bit better in the summer.

Can't remember how many gallons left at 1/4, E or when the low-fuel light comes on.
