2001 W Engine fuel pressure regulator

Hello,
I have an 01 4x4 4 door blazer w/ a W engine. I have replaced all 6 injectors, spark plugs and temperature sensor in the head. My problem is extended cranking followed by a pure fuel smell when the vehicle finally starts. A mechanic told me it could be the fuel pressure reguulator. The vehicle is not throwing any codes-mechanic just put it on the scanner. Vehicle has correct fuel pressure. If the vehicle sits for a while, then it will start fine. My question is this: where is this fuel pressure regulator located and does anyone have any clues to what is going on with my vehicle?

Thanks[:@]

RE: 2001 W Engine fuel pressure regulator

I suppose it is possible that the FPR is the culprit... More to your question, the FPR is located on the back fuel injection spider under plastic upper intake plenum.

My question is this, who replaced the injectors? A 2001 has the CSFI unit which has 6 individual injectors in a central housing. From each injector, a tube runs down to a poppet injector in the intake ports pointing at the intake valves for each of the respective cylinders. The reason why I state all of this information is because it is FAR cheaper to replace the entire CSFI spyder (6 injectors, the spider body, and the FPR) than it is to replace all 6 individual injectors. Heck, it's cheaper to upgrade to the SMPI system used in the '04+ 4.3Ls which put the injectors down in the intake ports where the clog-prone poppet valves are in your current fuel injection setup. The later SMPI system is a direct replacement in the earlier CSFI systems.
