2002 blazer 2wd slighty tranny slip 85k miles
OK my fiance has an 02 blazer 2wd with a slight tranny slip. She has about 85-90k miles on the thing. Would you recommend a tranny flush? I have to assume one has never been done on the thing. If I get a flush of the tranny and get them to drop the pan and replace the filter is there anything else I should do or have done at the same time? It needs new ball joints and idler arm installed but I will take care of that seperately.

As I said in an earlier thread my mechanic suggests leaving the trans fluid alone after you either notice shavings or minor slips. He says the fluid flush will just worsen things and speed up the time to replace/rebuild the transmission. So far in 15 years he hasn't been wrong. He told me this after I had a firebird with 100k miles transmission flushed because of shaving in the fluid. The trans went out within 1k miles of having the service.

At 85-90k, if the fluid doesn't look/smell burnt, I wouldn't have reservations on doing a pan drop and filter change. With that high of mileage, I would not have a power flush done, but a simple pan drop and filter change will not be a problem.
First thing to do however, is to check the fluid level with the vehicle warmed up, parked on a flat, level surface, with the engine running. Sounds like you may be a bit low.

Thanx
Swartllk you always seem to be the guy ehre helping with my questions about this thing. thanks again.
I will check the level when she gets home from work tonight and we where it is at. It doesn't slip much at all and rarely does it.

and if you are still having problems after following the advice above i would try some Lucas transmission fix in it. i have put some in my 96 4x4 with 183,000 miles and it seems to make it a little better and it definately shifts smoother than it did before especially from first to second. but this stuff is not magic so if your tranny is truely junk. i wouldnt expect it to do much. just my 2 cents.

I will check the stuff out and see from there. I have used a trick from an old mechanic (a cap full of brake fluid into the tranny torough up the surfaces some_on one of my car before and completely stopped the slipping in a VW tranny with 150k on it.drove the VW for another 20-30k without a single problem.I am trying to avoid doing that since I don't know if it would cause any damage.
