Any advice on what to use to short the two pins on the OBD2 connector? Would a bent pater clip work or would I need something more precise?

Ok, I’ll give that a try in the morning. Hopefully with some kind of news.

Thank you!

If you are disconnecting battery to get to work, you cannot trust that a code 1 isn't from disconnecting battery and that all codes have been wiped out.

Better to just clear all codes (verify they are cleared) and get things to fail again/code to set before truly believing any codes (or lack of them). Reason is in attached document. Also, sometimes failures have to repeat a number of times before a TCCM code will be flagged.

Read especially encoder switch monitor test section. Aren't you only getting 2hi and 4lo when in failure? I think it's looking like encoder motor, but you should verify.

Good luck and best wishes for a successful repair! Sorry, I had to read on this a bit because mine is a 4-button and diagnostic methods are quite different.

Actually, I’m getting a 2Hi to 4Hi problem. It will shift to 4Lo.

so per post #3, it will go into 4lo and 2hi when the problem occurs, but not 4hi. What I said reflects that.
