4wd not engaging

I have a 1998 Blazer with the 3-button 4wd switch and when I push the 4 HI button I hear a noise indicating that the switch is working, and then hear a noise probably from the transfer case like the 4wd is trying to engage. However, after hearing the click, it does not feel like the 4wd actually engaged. The 4 HI light stays on, and the service 4wd light is not on. This is a little confusing for me, because it seems like everything is working like it should, it is just not engaging the front wheels when it tries to. If anyone has had a similar issue or has experience with 4wd I would appreciate any information about this issue.

Thanks,

Paul

Vacuume line

The exact thing happened to me. I tested it out and I figured it was the switch on the xfer case wasn't sending vacuum to the front axial. After spending 76 dollars and replacing the switch it still didn't work. I checked the vacuum lines a little better only to fine that the line that goes over the transmission had 2 holes in it. That fix cost me nothing. I wasted 76 dollars. The moral is dont take anything for granted. It was an easy check but I didn't think there was a problem just because I couldn't see it. Have fun mine has been nothing but a pain in the ass and I am going to sell it as soon as it gets out of the shop. It has logged more time on the back of a flat bed then on its wheels since I have bought it.

Thanks, I will make sure I check the vacuum lines closely when it finally warms up here (its snowing right now again). Mine has been a pain lately also, the drivers door is sagging and is now getting more difficult to close properly and the CAT has a little rattle coming from it...fun stuff. So I am considering selling mine as well.
