Default 4wd problems

I have a problem w. my 4WD. when i attempt to engage 4wd Hi the button flashed and a weird grinding noise occurs then it goes back to 2wd. I press the 4wd Lo button and sometimes it supposedly engages in 4wd lo but it seems as though something could be at fault. Ive had my 96 4 door Jimmy for about a yr and the 4wd has worked fine up until now, any suggestions to get me on the right path here?

Please do not take this the wrong way, but I moved your post from that old thread out to the 2nd Gen forum section so you could hopefully get more relevant answers.

What happens when you pull the 4wd fuse (or ATC fuse)? Does this correct the problem?

when i pull the 4wd fuse and try to engage it into 4wd hi all it does is click and the light blinks repeatidly then realized it isnt engaging and goes back to 2wd. After this i put the fuse back in and it somewhat went into 4wd hi.. it clicks alot and the transfercase makes a noise like it wants to engage but cant due to like a linkage or something thats not working.. idk im hoping its not the tcm but with my luck it probably is. what do u think is my problem

Funny, I had this exact same issue in my 2004 blazer..... no matter what I did it kicked it back to 2HI, hasn't worked until today! Of course I couldn't tell you what caused it though, my battery drained itself completely in about a 20 minute period while I was in a store shopping and after I got it jump started I was driving around for a while and figured I'd play around with the 4wd buttons..... they didn't work this morning, but worked after the batt went completely dead. Now my 4wd drives works like a champ again but my truck won't start again! I'm thinking my alternator and batt are both fried. Of course when I get my alt and batt replaced my luck my 4wd won't work again! So let me know if you figure it out!

i dont think this is the problem for me. I just put in a new battery like last month since I live in VT and winters coming. my alternator is working just fine because Its always where it should be on the voltmeter. I dont know what is making my 4wd not work but i hope to get it fixed be4 we have a freakin blizzard one fine november night or something. Im on a poor mans budget but im afraid this ones gonna b a real winner.
