All S10-Blazers after '93-'94 (I think) came with the 4.3L/4L60E trannies, and is the only engine/auto tranny option, and I think '93-'94 was the years the 4L60E came out. '88 was the first year the 4.3L was offered in the S10-Blazers, and it was bolted up to a 700R4 tranny. As the years progressed it was bolted to the 4L60 tranny. Then the 4L60E tranny. The 4L60E tranny is an electronically controlled version of the 4L60 tranny, and the 4L60 tranny is an upgrade to the 700R4 tranny. All of them are the same externally up till around '99, and most of the parts are the same internally. The major difference is fluid flow, and with the E model elctronic control. The 700R4 and 4L60 are controlled by a TV cable, while the 4L60E is controlled by the computer. In '99 GM made the bellhousing seperate from the tranny case, otherwise it is basically the same, and an older 4L60E could be swapping in its place physically, not sure about the computer stuff on teh newer versions yet. These are the same trannies used in all 1/2 ton GM trucks, that includes the SUV's, Astro vans, and Full size pickups. In fact the 4.3L engine can also be found in the fullsize pick-up and Astro vans. Plus the equivalent GMC versions. First model years are different and depend on the truck.

As for your question. Sorry, it would be more cost effective to just buy a running truck you like. If you want to save the engine and use it in another vehicle. Your options are only limited to your ability. The 4.3L/4L60(e) engine/tranny compination has been swapped into just about every truck out there. They are extremely popular in the Jeeps, Toyotas, etc. as upgrades for off-roading to name a few. There is a company called Advance Adapters that sells complete kits specific to swapping these engeine/trannies into all sorts of vehicles.

Now if you really want to swap it, you will have to keep all the wiring and the computer that came with the engine. It is a system, and short of finding another truck with the same system in it you will need everything. There are vin "W" and vin "Z" 4.3L engines, plus a whole host of differing fuel injection systems over the years. You can swap everything over to the truck and use the new trucks fuel injection system to run the engine you wish to keep. Find a decent truck with a blown engine and swap it in. Swap the blwon engines fuel injection system over to this engine and run it. This will work with a blwon V8 engine as well, altough you will also need to swap sensors and upgrade to bigger injectors I believe.

The easiest swap would be into another Blazer with the same engine vin letter and from the same year as your totaled truck. But it can be swapped into anything you like, all depends on your skills, research abilities, and how deep your pockets are. Advanced Adapters will sell you the parts to make the swap physically fit, and Painless Wiring will sell you the wiring harness to adapt it to teh new truck. JTR will sell you a book on how to do the swap, plus what needs to be modified, and where to get the parts. JTR prefers to use factory parts when possible, keeps cost down by finding what you need at the local salvage yard.

Sorry this is so long, however there is more to it then just giving you a list to go by. If you want a list. Pick a truck, it'll fit. If you don't want to mess with the wiring, find a '95 with the same engine vin letter.

As Hanr3 mentioned, you could just remove the wiring harness and computer along with the drivetrain, then you could install everything in any S-10 you wanted. Given your Blazer is junk, it would be easy to remove everything. Swapping everything over in the S-10 would of course be more time-consuming, but I’ve done them before. If your lucky, things will mostly plug together.
