My tailgate latch broke while trying to open the back to get items out the other day. The window opens, but the tailgate handle inside doesnt do anything. Is there a way to get it open and fix this?

 

Yup there is go on ebay and look up the latch it is 16.99 and take a whole 10 mins to put in and come with a new key greatest thing I have every done yet

 

I looked and could not find the same thing. Mine is not the turn style with key in middle. It has a push button for glass and a handle inside the tailgate for opening the gate. The glass goes up and gate flips down like a truck.

 

Do I need to include pictures?
Does anybody know what I am talking about?

 

Is the handle itself broken, or the linkage inside the tailgate?

 

The rod from the handle is disconnected down in the tailgate. It just dangles from the handle.

I'm not quite sure on how to get it open without taking the panel off.

 

How do you get the panel off when the gate wont drop?

 

Ok so my blazer decided that I needed to find out. My latch did the same thing just now.
The way to get the gate open is you need to squeeze your hand behind the panel and find the latch mechanism.

In the little hole on the top middle is where it is. You need to lift it up.

The rod that you see is the rod to the handle.

Sorry this one is sideways. The left is the top of the tailgate.
