96 4.3 wont start
 

O.K you smart guys, here it goes. I have a buddy check the fuel pressure. It holding steady at 55-60.I have spark at the plugs/coil etc. I tried starting fluid and nothing helped. It pulled a mass air flow code, but I think it did so becouse I unhooked it when I tried to start it. I cleaned the egr and maf. I also changed the fuel filter. I am leaning towards pulling that plastic cover off the intake and looking at the fuel pressure regulator. Am I on track or do I need to check anything else ? By the way, after several cranks I can smell gas. I also turn the key to let the pump prime prior to starting or turning the engine over. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

if you know your getting spark at the plug wire end and you smell gas its probally bad spark plugs. pull them and see what they look like

My plugs look good, I had a mechanic look at one I pulled just to be safe.

Well if you have GOOD spark and good fuel pressure getting to the engine, it should start. Doesn't make sense to me that it wouldn't.

Does the fuel pressure bleed off after the pump shuts off? If so, you have a leak.

Have a similar problem going on. Working on a 96 Blazer for a buddy. He picked it up from a police auction. Looks like its been sitting for roughly 3 years. Fuel pump was dead so I replaced it. Will run off starting fluid or a little gas dumped in intake. Fuel pressure around 65psi. But won't run on its own.

You said you checked fuel pressure and it was at 60 psi and holding,Dont waste your time pulling the upper intake to check your regulator because you already checked it with the fuel pressure test. Check your crankshaft position sensor,camshaft position sensor.Did you check to see if there are any codes? If you have spark and fuel and good pressure one or the other sensors are bad and it should set a code even if it does not start. By the way do not try to start it without the mass air sensor hooked up because it not start and you could be shooting yourself in the foot. Hope this helps.

Since it is been sitting for so long I would put a new fuel filter on it and make sure the fuel lines are not clogged. Nothing is more damaging than having a vehicle sit especially that long.

Thanks for the good info. I do not have a clue where the crankshaft and camshaft sensors are. How would I test them if I do find them ?

Any luck fixing this? Mine has started doing the same thing
