When i go to start my vehicle it will crank but wont always start right away. I turn the key and have to wait untill the voltage gets high enough before i attempt to turn it over. It will crank and attempt to fire but will not and it usully takes atleast a cpl of tries before it fires. It starts fine if it is warm but cold weather is where i have the biggest issue. It almost seems as though there is a draw somewhere but i have not been able to find it. I have bought a new battery and also a new starter. Everything tested fine and there are no codes stored in the cars computer.
Also the vehicle fires right up if connected to a jump... so i dont think it is fuel pump or fuel related. Any ideas? Your feedback is much appreciated.

I dont beleave there is anything wrong with the voltage it is right around 11 maybe abit higher i just have to give it a sec to reach it.
This issue is much worse in the cold... i hardly have any problems when it is above freezing. Maybe alittle bit of an issue but it isnt as stubborn

 

I would try taking a look at your grounds, or even look into doing the big 3 upgrade. I bet a bad or loose ground strap somewhere could cause something like this. Also check all connections from battery to alternator to starter, possible something is a little loose.

 

It could quite possibly be fuel pump related. My truck had very similar symptoms, where it would start fine in warm weather, but as soon as it got cold and sat for more than a few hours it was very hard to start. The problem is that in cold weather the battery has a harder time maintaining full 12V, and the starter and other parts require more energy to turn them when you try to start the truck. This drops the battery voltage lower, often from 12V resting to around 9V when cranking the truck. If your fuel pump is getting weak it may hold close enough to proper fuel pressure at 12V, but when you crank the engine over and the voltage drops the fuel pump can't maintain 60+PSI and drops below the running threshold so the vehicle won't start. This is confirmed by the fact that it starts fine when you jump start it because the voltage drop when you crank the engine isn't as much and the weak fuel pump is able to maintain proper pressure.

This voltage drop can also be made worse by coroded battery cables and chassis grounds. If it were my truck and I had your situation, I'd start with the battery cables because that's a lot cheaper and easier to test/replace. From there I'd suspect the fuel pump. If you do decide to replace the fuel pump make sure you get a Delco or Delphi pump or you'll be changing it out again in a year. Do not cheap out with a different brand fuel pump. You will seriously regret it down the road.

 

What you just said is what i was most concerned with. I sure hope its the ground wires... i have exhausted every other option..... gotta be one of those two problems id think.
