Default '98 4WD T/C diags (Jimmy NV233)

Again, mine is '98...

I'm gonna' try to go through the whole circuit for the 233, and post a few pics as I go. Anybody who see's where I'm goin' and knows somethin', POST UP.

I got DTC 2 out of the selector switch lights. The paper clip is hard to see with my Mickey Mouse camera.

I got DTC 1 too, but I think that's normal for having the battery just disconnected. How many ignition cycles before the DTC 1 goes away?

I can't see where FSM says to start for DTC 2, so I'm starting at T/C Function test:

Then go to Function Failure Test #6...

Looks like 'Reduced or No Mode (2wd <=> 4wd) AND Range Shift (Hi <=> Lo) Operation.

#2 action - test each wire from the TCCM to the encoder motor, for continuity, and to see if any are shorted to ground (or if they have B+ voltage and aren't supposed to).

Where is circuit 31, and circuit 940??? I don't see them in any connector schematic???

swartlkk; where is this chart in my '98 FSM???

I don't know what diagnostic chart you are looking at, but those circuit references don't come up for either the NV236 or the NV233 transfer case wiring.

The charts are in this set:

Where did your FSM schematic come from? (year)

I am getting my information from Mitchell's OnDemand and AllDataDIY specific to your year.

Neither make any mention of either of those circuits. Now maybe they are outside the transfer case controls, but feed into it further up the chain. Guess you'll have to dig through the wiring diagrams if you want to use those charts.

Here is the complete wiring diagram for the NV233 transfer case as it applies to your truck:

Thanks!

What happened to the DTC 2 diags tree? It's all drawn up, and I ain't grubbed on any carrots lately (can't read it anymore!)

I ain't diggin' this FSM too much so far. I know my way through vette FSM like a cakewalk, and this one inhales like bro'Bama.

Got a pic of the encoder harness connector - how it disconnects? Some kind of snap-lock, I'm sure???????

I need this pic now of how this encoder connector disconnects???

This IS encoder motor connector, over front axle? Looks like at least an 8mm bolt? How 'bout snaps?

Looks kinda' dirty. Eeeeyew...

As you loosen connectors, blow away as much road jam as possible. The bolt is 5/16 ~ 8mm. No plastic snap part.
