'98 blazer heater core went out want to bypass

I want to bypass the heater core in my '98 4x4 blazer. How do I go about locating the heater core and the hoses without having to go and buy a manual.

Does anyone know what the average cost to pay someone to do this for me?

Since the heater core went out the air has stopped working as well are the two related?

Thank you

Just follow the ~3/4" diameter hoses from the engine into the firewall. It will be right next to the distributor to the passenger side. Pretty easy to bypass. If you cannot connect the hoses together, then just plug the ends.

Is your heater core leaking?

And the two problems can definitely be related. If the vacuum supply to the HVAC system has been compromised in some way, it will have an affect. There are quite a few threads on this subject since it is somewhat common.

Thanks for the help!! I have located the hoses and plan to work on it later today. It dosen't look to be that difficult. :)

Yes the heater core is leaking. I was quoted 1000.00 to replace and at this time do not have the funds. Maybe by winter when I need the heat I will.

As to HVAC system I will look further into the threads to see if I come up with anything.

Thanks again

$1000??????!!!!! What a rip. The core itself is only like $40 if I remember correctly. I replaced the heater core in my 98 blazer when I had it. It's a little work. Maybe it's the labor they are soaking you on. But it's not really hard. Just time consuming.

'98 blazer heater core went out want to bypass

I am in the process of replacing the heater core on my '95. I started on it yesterday and will finish it (with luck) today. I didn't know how much it would cost to have someone replace it but $1000.00 doesn't surprise me. It is time consuming. The part is just under $40.00. I thought about by passing it but I knew eventually I would have to bite the bullet. Good luck!
