98 blazer OBD code problems

I recently (about 6 weeks ago) purchased from a private party a 1998 blazer LT. 252,000 miles on the odometer but paperwork for a rebuilt engine, new transmission and new radiator at 194,000. I have run into some recent issues that I'm hoping one or more of the experts here can help me with. The airbag light had been on since I purchased it, but the OBD came back clear with no codes, and the carfax report is clean and clear indicating no airbag deployments or accidents. Within the last four days the service engine soon light came on and the OBD read po240 (for two different problems; both codes were po240). The vehicle runs fine and nothing has changed in the six weeks I have had it. Any ideas as to what needs to be repaired/replaced and how much this may cost? I'm not much of a gearhead so short of it being a really easy fix I will have to take it in to a shop.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

RE: 98 blazer OBD code problems

A regular code scanner cannot access the SRS airbag module. You would need a Tech2 (dealer) or equivalent (AutoEnginuity, Snap-On, etc) scan tool with enhanced GM capabilities to access this module.

As far as the P0240 goes... That just doesn't make any sense...

P0240 == Turbocharger Boost Sensor 2 Performance

Maybe it was P0420...?

P0420 == Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

*Moving to 2nd Gen Tech*

my mistake, it was po420. Also, if there were never any airbag deployments, could it be something as simple as resetting or replacing a sensor?

Thanks

RE: 98 blazer OBD code problems

The Airbag light is notifying you of a fault in the system, not that the airbag has gone off in the past or will unexpectedly.

Check out the link I posted above for the book rundown of the P0420 code.
