Default ABS Light always on

The ABS light is always on, 1995 Blazer, but the brakes seem fine, any ideas?

Thanks,

John

My guess would be your ABS doesn't work. Your brakes would still work fine just the antilock system wouldn't. You could try testing them by stoping on maybe a dirt road and hammering the brakes to see if the pedal pulses and see if the wheels lock or not.

If the light is on, the ABS system has sensed a fault in any one of the sensors/components in the system. Typical culprits are dirty wheel speed sensors at the front wheels or stressed/broken wiring for the front wheel speed sensors. There also are some cases where it is the fault of the ABS control module which would require replacement/rebuilding of the controller (not the valve body).

Hope this helps!

I'm in agreement with Swartlkk about broken/stressed front wires.

Pop your front tires off and see if the wires are worn or look like they've been rubbing on your rim. It happens alot.

If that the issue, you can fix the wire pretty easily buy cutting it, and splicing in some new wire.

The best fix for this issue is to lengthen the wire a bit and then, using wire ties, tie it down along the brake hose instead of routing it the way gm has it.

Since doing it this way, I have not had a problem. I used to fix those wires twice a year.
