ABS light on for the first 9-10 feet

The last three days the ABS light on the blazer (1995) has stayed on for the first 9-10 feet of the day. One step on the brake and keep going, it turns off. My though have been that we have had some days of warm and cold, warm and cold weather. Could this problem be do to water and ice, and when I drive some and brake this ice goes away?

Yeah mine came on too, when I was wheeling in some deep snow, it came on for a minute and then went off. According to Chevy it will come on when there is excessive traction loss. The light tells you that ABS is disabled. It will reset itself after normal driving. If it comes on when driving normal then you should have it looked at.

I dont get the light in reduced traction conditions. But I have read that a weak signal from a wheel sensor can cause this sort of problem. When moving slowly starting out, the computer cannot see a strong enough signal from the sensors. Once the vehicle goes a little faster it locks on to the signal then it works fine until it is shut down. It could be a loose connection or a bad/going bad sensor. I have a 98 that only has 3 ABS "zones". The rear end, front left and front right. I am pretty sure that the rear zone uses a sensor on the Tcase. The front two have sensors integrated into the wheel hubs on my vehicle. The front sensors might have been external in 1995 and therefore easier to change. The rear sensor would be the same one used for the speedometer so if that works on your vehicle then I would focus on the fronts.

Good luck,
-William
