ABS light headache (UK)
 

Hello.

A good friend of mine has a 4.3 1999 Blazer automatic 4x4 right hand drive that we've been trying to work out why the ABS light comes on (just the yellow abs not the red brake light)
It will come on immediately you start moving.
We have checked the earth by the radiator and the abs fuse.Also the front abs sensors give the same readings at the multiplug at the module(with it disconnected)
We have changed the ABS module for a second hand unit and still the same...
Were getting these codes for a very basic scan tool:
0247 ebc module

C0268 pump motor shorted

C0248 ebc module

C0243 ebc module

C0244 ebc module

C0253 ebc module

C0254 ebc module

Also powered up the pump motor and these runs fine.Could this be a broke module we've fitted??

We can't seem to get to the bottom of this and its driving us crazy, plus we can't find anyone to rebuild or supply a new module here in London..

Hope you guys / girls could maybe share some of your knowledge with us please.

We've checked the resistances on both hubs at the multiplugs at module and they both are within range and have rising voltages when wheel turned. How does it put all these codes up when them seem to be working?

jack up wheel off the ground, grab wheel top and bottom or 9 and 3 oclock and check for play. May be in range with no weight on it but with play and rolling down the road it may not

I had same issues on my 2001. Put on new Moog hubs and still had the dang "brake" lights showing up intermittently Replaced the brake module with one from a junk-yard and not much better.

Finally found this company that you can mail your brake module to and they repair it really quick. Guarantee it for 5 years as well. Couldn't be happier with their work/service.......Best $130 I've spent in a long time.

Here's what they did according to the invoice:

Replaced pump amplifier with new premium grade unit. Installed motor surge suppressor/wave shaper. Replaced electromechanical ABS relay with more efficient unit as required. Tested module with no problems and then cleared error code history. Sealed module housing and exposed module hardware. Module has a 5 year warranty.

It's very possible that the used ABS module you installed was also faulty. It's a very common issues with these trucks. I had a very similar issue and I did the repair that Zenith mentioned ModuleMaster does myself. All I did was carefully cut the sealant around the cap on the ABS module, reflowed some solder joints and added a little solder in some places, reinstalled the cap with some new silicone sealant, reinstalled, and so far so good roughly a year later. It's no a terribly hard job to do, there's actually a video on YouTube that I referenced.

Very possible indeed. I quit buying used electronic parts because they almost always didn't work.

Here is why, IMO. Someone goes through junked Blazers and pulls say, 100 ABS modules and sells them to a seller on ebay. The ebay seller advertises them and sells them. Say only 10 are no good. So if you buy yours the day they first go up for sale you have only a 10/100 chance of getting a bad one - a reasonable risk. Of those 10 bad ones, 8 get returned. They go up for sale again but if you buy one now you have a 100% chance of getting a dud. Of those 8 sold, 6 get returned and are put up for sale again and if you buy one now you have another 100% chance of buying a dud. Of those r returned and resold, some get returned and are put up for sale again and if you buy one now you have yet another 100% chance of buying a dud.

The bad ones keep getting returned and recycled; basically unless you buy when the batch first comes in you have a 100% chance of buying a dud.
