AC Compressor

My Bering on my AC compressor is bad can I just replace the compressor with a new one or do you have to replace other items as well. Then recharge the system. I might add my air works really well nice and cold just that my tensioner went bad and took out the AC pulley bearing nothing else. I replaced the tensioner serpentine belt and it still works really well just noisy bearing like.

The repair depends on which bearing is bad. If it is only the clutch bearing as it sounds like it may be, you can get away with just replacing the clutch with a new one and you'll be good to go.

If it is one of the bearings inside the compressor, you may be in for some hefty repairs as when they go, the internals of the compressor typically touch and throw little bits of metal throughout the system.

AC Compressor

No it is the pulley bearing and the price of a new pulley with Bering is about the same as a complete compressor with pulley and clutch.

replace whats bad, rent a vacuum pump, vacuum the system, and add 2 small cans of freon. and roll.

as long as the everything works right...

cant do this? pay someone else with the right stuff to do it.

Chris 015 So should I use the vacuum pump on the system before mounting the new compressor or after.

chris015 09-21-2014 08:57 PM

...

after...

once you have it all hooked up. add the pump, supply vaccum. should show -25,30 on the gauge after 20 min of running it.. close the valve. watch the gauge....does it leak down? you have a leak...

more or less your doing this to save 30.00 in freon.

If the pulley is all that is bad, I would not recommend opening up the system. Especially so if you do not have the proper means to recover the refrigerant that is in there already.

The A C Compressor

Upon inspection along with the compressor pulley my tensioner and idler pulley was bad so even though my serpentine belt was great looking I replaced it, the tensioner the idler pulley the compressor and had it evacuated and recharged. Now those irritating noises from the belt area are gone. Now I am keeping the serpentine belt for a spare [emergency] I am also going to replace the bearing in the idler pulley to have a spare one of them as well. So that resolves all my issues at once glad I took the belt off and checked all the pulleys it probably saved me from a break down further down the line.https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1413236226
