AC leaking from compressor lines

The AC is leaking hard from these lines, freon, oil, anything that's in there. The washers in there are new, and I'm not sure at this point what to do. The compressor was replaced less than a year ago.

Was this happening before or right after the new compressor? Any trauma to that area? Has the compressor been failing/overheating?

Scrub everything down with simple green and then see if its the sealing washers, the welds or splits in the pipes.

It was about 10 months since I vacuumed my system and charged it that I noticed this issue. The compressor clutch doesn't engage unless I short the switch on the accumulator, which is when it leaks. I fully charged the system to have it leak out completely in a matter of hours.

The AC worked last year until the clutch on the old compressor locked up which is why it was replaced.

Where exactly is it leaking from - washers, welds, pipe cracks, ...?

Oh, sorry aha. Washers, where the lines connect to the compressor

I am seeing a trend in copper sealing washers where they appear to be harder than in the past and this has caused me a lot of grief on brake jobs. What I have been doing is taking all copper crush washers and annealing them before use which softens them. I use a pair of pliers and a propane torch to heat them until they glow red. Then I clean them up and connect everything. I have not had any leaking problems since I started this.

I'm only worried about melting the rubber inners of the washer

GeorgeLG 07-16-2018 09:31 PM

Oh crap, I didn't realize (or remember) that these washers have a rubber layer on them. Scrap that suggestion then. I wish I had more to offer.

replace washers but make sure connections are not scratched or dented at the sealing surfaces.
Use correct washer type for the fluid.

BTW: It wasn't that the type of refrigerant has been changed from R12 to R134a?

I used the correct washers but never checked for damage. I'm thinking about buying a new section of hose, it's only $30 on RockAuto.

And no, it's an 04 :)
