OK You guys saved me. I have been getting the dreaded P0300 and the running rich on bank 1 code. I noticed it in NY before coming home. Well I thought it might be a bad o2 sensor. But I was futzing around yesterday and found the DIY topic onthe fuel pressure regulator. I saw how to pull the air regulator and check for buildup. Sure enough, there it was. Got the new one and took off the plenum.

I'm going to say it now. PUT PAPER TOWELS IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD PORTS!!!! I had it bad. That special little torx drive they give you withthe new regulator came out of the 1/4" socket I used to undo those stinker little bolts. Well it fell right into one of the rear ports. I fashioned a magnet on the end of a coat hanger and was able to fish it out. But it was bad on two levels. First it could have gotten lodged in my cylinder if I didn't get it out. Also I couldn't finish tightening up the regulator without the pisser because it has that little hole in the center for that stub in the star of the bolt.

Anyway. Got it out. Got the regulator tightened down and got the truck back together. Just took it for a run. Took off like a gazelle! Head in the headrest again. I've got 3/4 of a tank of gas so now I get to judge my milage. I was getting about 200 miles highway with what was left. We'll see but it idles smooth as silk now. Not bad for having had the front smashed and just kicked over 200k miles on the trip up north.

Yeah. What was happening is especially in the morning it would idle rough and pull up the code and as the day went on and the truck warmed up the ses light would go out. Today I went to the post office in the morning and started fine. No smell of gas. idled smooth again. And no ses light. Engine fixed.
