another towing capacity question

i'm looking at getting a 97 jimmy because well it's in my price range,it's a 2 door standard.I tried doing a search seems everything I find is for the 4 door dogamatic.

Ok.. if the question what can this tow, its anywhere from 4500-5500 pounds. depending on the differential it has, and the hitch it has. also i think it matters if its a manual or automatic

So please respond with what it has and we will be able to tell you

I have a 2003 and have a single axle trailer. I had 2+ yards of heavy wet mulch on it but only took short distances. I have an auto and placed in 3rd to haul I will not place in OD while hauling though.

a 2wd manual trans has a max tow weight of 4500lbs... per the owners manual.

^^^ thats true depending on what he means by standard.

Oh and yes is it a 2wd or 4wd

coolasice 03-01-2012 04:59 AM

4wd manual trans is 4000lbs

97cherryblazer 03-01-2012 02:33 PM

^^^ Yeah again that depends on the hitch and differential. I have a 3.73 differential and a class 3 hitch that came with the truck and my capacity is 5500 lbs. (I have towed far more than that but that's the rating)

Just trying not to confuse the OP by giving one specific number. It all depends on your truck

coolasice 03-01-2012 03:11 PM

manual trans onlu came with 3.42 and yes you need a class 3 to carry more then 3500lbs.... but the manual states 4500lbs max for manual trans 2wd and 4000lbs max for 4wd

97cherryblazer 03-01-2012 03:13 PM

Oh so he has a manual? I was confused on that

I am sure you have all had your own experiences towing with these and thats great, but I have found that these units are not suited for anything above about 3500lbs! Keep in mind that the usual Blazer/Jimmy weighs about 4500 lbs loaded,if one exceeds that then you throw the suspension capabilities out the window especially if the wagon weighs much over 4000 lbs-not to mention the braking capability! I have seen fools try to pull 5000 lb trailers across Kansas with these cars and they usually end up with a burned out trans or even worse:a flipped trailer! Jus my 2 cents... step66
