Bypass Hazard Switch?

Bypass Hazard Switch?
I'm looking at my options to fix my broken hazard switch, but I'm not sure if what I'm thinking would work. The little plastic hazard switch has broken off of the multifunction switch and is continuously forcing my hazards to stay on. The replacement part new runs about $80-$160 but requires me disassembling the front half of the steering column which I don't really want to do if I can avoid it, and junkyards seem to be clueless when I mention the multifunction switch.
Has anyone had success in such wiring it to a basic on/off or momentary switch? It seems like I could just tap into the wire at the column (or further back) and have it activated by that aux switch instead. I've got a few switches lying around, and a quick fix would save me time and money that could go to other things that're more pressing. Just tired of running around with a screwdriver jammed in the top of my steering column to stop the hazards.
Any help is appreciated!

Assuming the truck is a 96 Jimmy: All of the lamps are shared for hazard, turn and stop so the hazard function is managed by the multifunction switch with fairly involved routing. It depends on what is broken and in what way as to if a work around exists outside that switch. First pull the hazard flasher then put it back and pull the turn flasher. Tell us what happens in both cases compared to now.
