Which is the A/C low side service port?

As you can tell by the title I'm going to try recharging my A/C myself this time. I'm just confused on which port I plug it into. I'm supposed to connect to the low side, but I'm not 100% sure I'm looking at the right connector. If you look at the picture, I'm thinking it's the one near the bottom of the frame. Where the line bends up to the connector then back down. Is that correct?

Thanks!

Smaller port is the low side.

The low side port is on the accumilator. The big silver coffee can looking thing (Official technical term)

The port on the bent tubing is the high side.

Thanks, yeah I was doing to research online and saw something that eluded to that. I also found that the hose only fit on one of them anyway! I put one can in and it's cold now. How many can's does it take when it's empty? I only put in one.

On the evaporator housing should be a label that gives system capacity. My 98 with front air only takes 28 oz. Yours may be different.

the 99 takes 1.88 pounds so 3 cans

2 1/2 cans. Assuming the can is 12 oz. Dont over charge it.

Go to the ACPROCOLD.com site. There they have a PORT locator. You put in the yr, make, model, and so on of your vehicle and it will send you to a diagram drawing of your port location. It is hard to tell which of the two is smaller and which is larger. by just looking at it.

Awesome advice

Thanks for the info, It is hot as hell down under in N.Z checked a couple of garages out to look at my A/C not working they quoted $200 $127USD without even looking so purchased a can of R-134A and applicator goggles & gloves online for $60 $38usd used the whole can. and is just in the green zone.

The truck immediately started idling better and not surging assume this is the clutch & compressor working normally again, Very happy:icon_toast:
