Calipers, again
 

I've read all the previous brake threads. I'm still stumped. '02 2wd. @66K the driver's rear brake caliper started dragging. Replaced pads (both sides) and calipers, bled both sides. Now @ 98K driver's side caliper is sticking again. Apparently had been sticking enough to get the pads hot enough to make the squealer break off when it touched the rotor, so ate down to the backing plate. Have now replaced caliper, pads, rotor and brake line. Flushed to clean fluid, both sides. After a two mile drive without touching the brakes (coasting to a stop) the driver's side caliper shows 268' with an IR scanner, passenger side shows 74'. Passenger side release fine. Any thoughts anyone?

Did you replace the flex hose at the caliper? Is it twisted, (are the lines on the hose straight from the steel line to the caliper)? If you open the bleeder does the caliper release? Are the guide pins binding? Are the pads binding in the bracket? Gotta be one of those things.

No binding on the pins. New flex line, no binding, it does make a bend (not a kink) as the oem line did. Pads are loose once the calipers release. No blockage on the bleed port as it will gravity bleed. The caliper releases from the pull back of the master cylinder, there is no internal spring to pull the piston away. Opening the bleed doesn't cause movement because there is no pressure once the pedal is released.

Mystery solved. The new caliper was defective. Replaced the caliper again, all is well. In fact the driver's side is a few degrees cooler than the passenger side. All in all a real pita.
