Can't detect leak on a/c system
I purchased a can of freeon that has dye along with the glasses to detect the leak and nothing. i belive the a/c system was empty so is 1 can not enough? once i filled the system with the 1 can the compressor was going on like every 8 seconds and stayed on for about 4 seconds than would turn off and come back on again 8 seconds later and so on... I can't seem to detect a leak. i did notice the a/c blow a lil fresh than what it was, but very slight because it still felt warm. i'm just trying to diagnose the system and fix the leak than take it to a shop so they can fill the system since i've heard that it's best if they fill the a/c with their machine... So is 1 can enough to detect a leak or what's the deal... thanks

If you are not using a gauge on the low side it will be hard to tell what is going on with the proper pressures. Hope this helps. you did have a blacklight to check for the leak?(at night?)

I'll give you a spot to check, standing in front of the truck with the hood open look at the A/C compressor, you might find some dye on the back half. Do you have an oil/mess under the compressor on top of the bracket?

sorry to jump in on the topic but my 99 has the dye coming out around the back half of the compressor.is there seals in there to change?i never messed with air conditioning bfore.
i know when i fill this it takes 2 12oz.cans till the guage reads full. |
There are nitrile O-rings where the lines connect to the compressor. If the compressor internals are worn, you would be better off getting another compressor.

There is an o-ring on the back side of the compressor. There is a sensor that is held in with a snap ring. Once you removed the snap ring you can pull out the sensor and replace the o ring.

I had added a can of free on with that dye stuff and had found nothing, than i had some free on added about 3 weeks ago and today i come to find out why the a/c wasnt blwoing cold... popped the hood and the lines that connect to the a/c compressor appear to be broken... what could have caused this? I'll probably just end up replacing the a/c, accumilator, in line filter, orphis tube, and condensor. am i missing something or is their one of these that dont need to be replaced? thanks.
