cant index the encoder motor on to the tcase ..

hey guys i pulled the encoder motor from the transfer case today since i pulled code 2

I had a spare encoder motor on the side but i cant get it to line up with the tcase shaft.

I tryed lineing it up in all 3 modes 2hi 4lo 4hi IM just getting frustrated :icon_warped:
other then that i tryed shifting the motor its self and still cant get it to line up

any advice is well appreciated . I have only found 2 threads on this and still cant succeed ... =(

You can probably feel the detents when you manually shift the transfer case. The encoder is most likely in between shift points, that's why it won't line up. If you manually shift the case to 2WD HI, then select 2WD HI on the dash switch with the ignition ON, the TCCM should move the encoder to the 2WD HI position. Just a thought, worth a try.

Well i got her to finally line up but shes stuck in 4hi ... the encoder motor tryed to go to 2wd
but wont shift I know the motor is between 2hi and 4lo

I have the tcase shifted to 4hi and the motors input in the center

Edit: I forgot to mention this is on our 97 s10 pickup and it has a 233 tcase in it

I pulled the motor off again hope I get it working again tomorrow ...

i remember reading somewhere that the t case has to be in neutral to get the motor lined up right

Captain Hook 04-23-2012 01:04 PM

It doesn't necessarily need to be in neutral: The 233 selectable case does not have a "neutral" position. The important thing is that case and the encoder are in the same position, ie, both in 2HI, both in 4HI, or both in 4LO.

yup I finally got it that night

thanks guys
