Catalytic Converter
It is getting to the point where I can not hold off on getting a new catalytic converter any longer on my 2000 Blazer LS 4x4.
I purchased one a couple months ago from magnaflow that said it was the right diameter for my truck and I ended up getting a 3 in. cat when the actual exhaust is 2.5 in. On every website I enter the details of my vehicle in, they give me the same size magnaflow gave me. So I was wondering which size cat I should purchase and could someone possibly supply me with a link to the actual product? Thanks! :icon_wink: |
Try rockauto they have a drop in cat that bolts right in. It was around $150 which is pretty good.

A 2nd gen has a 2.5" exhaust from what I've seen (had mine rebuilt so I'm not sure what was original). From what I've read online some say 2.5" intake on a muffler & 2.25" on the out side of it. Why Magnaflow says & sent a 3" I have no idea unless the wrong parameters were put in or it's an aftermarket size.
Most of the Google shows up with BlazerForum links... so search us out! And I agree with checking out rockauto for a stock replacement or at least knowing the size. |
Or, if you can weld or know someone who can, just get a hi flow off ebay and grab some spark plug non foulers for the downstream o2 sensor.

I'm looking at a new Cat for a 2002. same thing, all the Universal fits for that year have
3" ID IN and OUT Not sure how that Rock Auto one works since my cat is all part of the 'Y' Pipe. no flanges or clamps. I have to get inder teh car and measuer the OD of my pipes to see if it will fit tight enough to weld all around to close it up. 50lb_cat is this the guy??? My 2cnd gen
Has a 3" exaust from the converter to the muffler.Anyway you can have it welded on with a reducer or expander?
|
I measured a 2.1" front and a 2.25" back of the existing pipe. Of course I can weld this on just wondering why they specify these Converters for this car but they really don't fit. A Converter with a 2.25" front and 2.5" rear would be a lot closer and Clampable or weld without filling gaps or buying additional sleeves to take up the gap.

All they do is raise the o2 sensor out of the stream so it reads more clean air, that way you won't get a CEL. |

I've used the dorman product in the past, it will do the trick. The product you showed looks like a better product for sure lol. Just depends on how much you want to spend.
