I know this is an old thread but someone might be looking for the same advice one day. I usually change all 6 spark plugs by jacking up the car and going in through the flap in the wheel well. No need to unbolt the steering column or remove the tires, there is plenty of room with the front tires off the ground. I just use an extension with a spark plug socket that was a U-joint on it. Much faster and easier for me that way. Did it the same way on my '95 and my '88 Blazers.

2000 Spark plug removal

Go in through the wheel well, no need to remove the tire. There is a flat spot on the steering column, turn it until flat spot is on top. Jack your engine up about a quarter inch and you have no problem. No need to take anything loose anywhere except your spark plugs. It took me two years to find out these few simple things that work so well. Enjoy the solution!

This is great advice, especially the last two posts. I wouldn't have known to do that if I had not seen it here. Thought I was going to rip my hands apart trying to find a way in to that plug yesterday! Thanks much guys.
