Cheap OEM style muffler
Bought this Zr2 used and the kid that had it put flowmaster 40 with turndowns on it. Annoyingly loud for a v6 in my opinion, I can hear it inside the house when the girlfriend starts it. I would like to find something quieter like OEM but just find performance mufflers around. Would a junkyard be my best bet? I'm sure not a lot of people want to go back to quiet factory exhaust. I don't hate loud exhaust, magnaflow competition catback on the Mustang GT, but it's a Blazer and it's just too loud.

I bet any exhaust shop would have cheap, stock style mufflers.
Also, junkyard is a good option. All you need is a cordless Sawzall! And I'm with you. On a V8, loud exhaust sounds good! On a V6, not so much |
If you go to a salvage yard, why not pull the entire exhaust system from the cat back. That way there is no cutting or welding or leaking clamps.Be sure to take some PB Blaster or other penetrate. FYI there are no after market cat back exhaust systems for two door S10 Blazers. There are many for the 4 door version of the Blazers.

All bolt together for a nice factory fit. |
Jeez the price, paid 1500 for the entire truck. Honestly not bad without the cat though. Thank you! Prob do muffler and tail pipe

Looking at the Amazon prices for the three pieces: 1./ Y pipe+ cat's+ exhaust pipe = $281.xx 2./ Muffler---Walker Sound FX =$75.xx and 3./ the tail pipe or the extension pipe as Amazon calls it +$50.XX and free shipping ....
As Blazer974 says and if your cats are good, you could cheap out with parts 2. and 3. for a grand total of only $ 125.xx .For those who like a loud sound, I think these parts esp. the muffler is designed for a quiet stock sounding system. As some have said before on this forum, it doesn't matter what loud muffler you put on this 4.3L V6, it will never sound like a V8 ! |
