Cool Check engine light

I posted once before about this problem but like a bad penny it keeps coming back.

I have a 2003 S-10 4x4 4.3 3 door pickup. The problem is the motor shakes and has poor performance. I change the fuel filter and I thought the problem was solved, it ran for two days and started all over again. So I cleaned the MAFS and again it ran fine for about a day, now this time there is a smell like something is very hot or burning almost electrical like smell. Truck starts fine and after about 2 thousand rpm appears to run fine...I'm at a lose here...could it be the fuel pump?, maybe but doesn't point that way esp with the burnt smell unless that's it cooking off...I bought this truck with 48K on it about a yr ago has 49K now, I don't drive much. Before it ran fine drove to Tucson VA twice (70mi each way) and it drove fine. BUT!!!!!!!!!! There has been a LOT of work done to this engine and as I look more and more I see more...Intake was taken off, what was done I don't know. New Power steering pump, New muffler, the a bunch of little things that I have notice. For a truck with 48K I think its way to much. I did a car fax/fox thing on it and there were no reported problems, truck came from Ill after bought new there and move to AZ now...Can a person change a motor and no one know so it doesn't show up on any report? Just to many things done for 48K...A lemon and the owner got rid of it?

Need some good advice.

Thanks
Dennis

Carfax only gets info from shops, not from individuals doing work in their own garages. Someone could have done a motor swap without carfax knowing. I'm not sure why someone would on a

I agree, but why? I don't know unless it was a lemon or they dog the heck out of the other motor and blew it up...I have seen that done with a lot less miles...Will wait on my mech come Tues and see whats what..

The guy next door to me ( Farmer John for real) old money...has this very expensive code puller...took him 10 mins just to hook it up.....hahahahaha...He pull the MAFS had weak voltage, miss in number #2 and a sensor maybe on the cat....I replace the MAFS myself and it ran fine...started to go after the rest and said screw it..take it to my mech Tues and let him do it...I take blood thinners and after 2 mins I was a bloody mess...just trying to get the Dist cap screws. I had also pick up a new cap and rotor and Plugs all A.C. Delco....I remember my Blazer and changing the plugs, look at the same motor for about 5 mins and said nope not again. Getting to old for this type of stuff esp with the blood thinners...I'm on the back side of my 60's nearing 70 and enough is enough with this engs all pack in there...Look like you been through a war after working on one...Use to...unless its changing the oil and filter and air filter thats about it for me any more....Plus changing that Fuel Filter after breaking 6 ribs on my left and 4 on my right, Well things aren't the same body wise any more...I was in a lot of pain laying on the concrete on my back....
