Default Code Reader required for OBD2?

Speaking of sensors & engine codes, could I post a question here about retrieving engine codes off of my 2001 Blazer 4x4, 4.3L V6. I fairly new to this site, sorry if I,m in wrong area-perhaps someone could redirect me if it's in wrong place. Do I need a code reader to get codes for this, it has the 16 pin ALDL diagnostic connector equipped with OBDII. Is there a way to jump say a A & B connecter like my 92 Cavalier?

You definitely need a scan tool to read codes on an OBDII equiped vehicle. There are a few exceptions where you can read the codes through the driver information center (some Caddys), but the vast majority require a scan tool.

BTW, I have moved your post into it's own thread.

I am not 100% but I thought you could jump A&B on plug and count the flashes on check engine light and retrive codes. like one flash then a pause then three flashes would be code 103, I might be way off here.

Yes, on my 1992 Z24 I can jump A&B connectors to get the blink code. However, on '97 Blazer it has the OBD11 which has a different diagnostic connector requires the scan tool. Thought there might be a way to do a MaGiver but may have to ask the Fiance for my wallet & buy a scan tool !

Most auto parts stores will read the codes for you for free.

You might want to start your own thread on the problems you are experiencing (if you haven't done so already) rather than drag this thread off topic.
