Distributor Bolt help

I have a 95 blazer and I am in the primary stage of replacing the intake manifold gasket. I have become stumped trying to remove the distributor bolt. It appears to be a 9/16 bolt and I cannot get a socket with a swivel underneath it, nor can I get a distributor wrench to break the bolt loose. The distributor wrench and crow wrench is starting to rounding off the head of the bolt so I stopped. I am puzzled on what to use to break the bolt to unloosen it. Can anyone guide me in what tool I should use?

Thanks
bizzs

You could try a flare nut crows foot wrench. Harbor Freight sells a bolt remover sockets that work great on rounded or almost rounded bolt heads.

7 Piece SAE Crowfoot Flarenut Wrench Set

9 Piece 3/8" Drive SAE Bolt Extractor Sockets

Thanks for the reply, but I do not think that those tools would work. I still would not be able to get a ratchet underneath of the distributor. There has to be a tool for this to at least break the bolt and I cannot find it on the internet. Any other suggestions?

My trucks have all been 96+ so it may be a little different, but i was able to get a small box end wrench in to break it free without much of a fuss... It was pretty tight back there tho.

How about this type of wrench:

Mr. Vls,

That is the tool I already have and it rounded the head off. This truck is such a pita.

Thanks

9/16" crow foot line wrench, (as mentioned in post #2) with a universal and an extension. Or, a stubby 9/16" box end wrench and whack it with a hammer. The shock will help break it loose. Or, a 9/16" swivel socket and extension.

+1 to what Cap'n said. A crows foot flare nut wrench has five sides so it won't round off bolt heads. That's what I use whenever I do distributor bolts.

I'm doing my LIM this weekend, used an offset wrench

I'm doing my 96 blazer LIM this weekend and took the distributor off last night. I ended up buying a $15 set of offset metric wrenches at Harbor Freight. I used the 10mm wrench for the distributor and the bolt came right out. I did squirt the bolt with PB (better than WD-40) and left it for 20 or 30 minutes prior to removing the distributor.

As you have already partially rounded of the bolt, you are going to have to use a six point wrench, you may have to shorten one of the ones you already have. Make sure it is fully engaged with the bolt and the handle is a close to the firewall as possible, Place a prybar of suitable size between the firewall and the wrench handle and use it as a prise to break the bolt loose.
