Does anyone still do preventative maintenance?
 

Your handbook tells you what to do for the service, however, if you have a vehicle that is 20 years plus old, things NEED replacing!
Every month I will replace a bush, a bearing, fluid change, etc.
I think spending $50 a month is good practice rather than waiting for the car to break.
This applies to all old vehicles.

Or, do you want to pay monthly payments for a new vehicle, even then there is no guarantee it won't fail.
My 20 year old Blazer is junk, but, will probably last another 20.

I get an oil change every three to four months. I have the fluids checked every four to six months. I replace wearable parts as needed. My engine, suspension, cooling system, etc are all new. Both of my doors have been rewelded and repinned. My only issues so far are just annoyance quality of life ones with the vehicle. Mines a 2000 though and it has taken a LOT of money to bring it to this condition.

Doors rewelded? My 99 4 door, doors are perfect.

Previous owner neglected the vehicle and both doors had extreme S10 sag. They were so bad that the hinges had to be rewelded. The striker plate on the driver side had to be rewelded as well.

Ok, I have replaced the hinge pins on the front doors, $4 a side, lol.

Next will probably be a fuel pump, gauge is unreliable.

When somebody asks you, "Whatcha doing this weekend?", and your reply is, "Same as always. Working on the Blazer."...It's time to move on.

I say that, but I like to tinker with my toys so... lol

Me too, either the daily drivers or my race car, but I am always in the garage coz I enjoy it.

I have a spreadsheet that I made up that reminds me when my next service is due as a function of date and/or mileage. It is based on the one in the owners manual, slightly modified over the years. I still record my maintenance in my little spiral notebook though.

As you can see. I'm due for my next oil change. :)

LOL, I like the spreadsheet.

on one service tag I found out that my owners manual only goes that far. Made up one on a piece of paper. Pencil and ruler, then drew a couple more. Service booklet is getting new ones when needed. ;)
