Default Door latch won't "pop" open

One of my rear doors won't open unless you push on it. The handle still seems to work but it doesn't feel right when you pull on it. Is this a rod linkage problem? Or should I start looking for a new latch?

Most likely there is something causing excessive pressure on the door latch that is preventing it from opening. That's why it works when you push on it and relieve the pressure. Check the door hinge bushings to see if the door is sagging, any damage to the door frame where it might be twisted, or for anything contacting the body of the truck that is forcing the door outward. You should also lube the latch and see if any of that helps.

My thoughts exactly El_Beautor. I was thinking that the latch itself may be out of adjustment which is what is requiring the additional help to get it to unlatch.

Does the door rise or drop, even slightly, when you push it back into the latched position? Does the latch pin in the door jam line up exactly in the middle of the latch on the door?

I should clarify, when you're sitting inside the vehicle and you pull the handle nothing happens. The door will only open if you push it open while the handle is pulled. The door handle feels "dead" almost like something isn't engaging when it is pulled. The striker isn't perfectly centered in the opening but it isn't rubbing on the door or anything like that. The pins and bushings are nice and tight when I open the door and shake it.

Is the child safety lock engaged?
Open the door and look near the striker and there should be a switch to go from child safety to regular.
