Drive without front cv axle's?
My 1997 LT Blazer has a bad right front CV axle with rumbling noise from 60KM/H....
I never drive in 4x4....good roads in Holland :icon_angel: Can I remove the 2 front CV axle's and drive it ? Greet from Europe :icon_wink: |
One of the "Real" experts can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the CV shafts help hold the wheel on.

sure you can remove the front diff also if you want, but you have to cut the boot on the cv and pull them apart where you put the nut on, and clean it then put it back on the hub and tight the nut. you can sell the front diff to someone

Since the axle nut torque is so critical to the life of the bearing, I would not recommend running without the CV shaft installed. If you really have to, then dismantle the CV shaft down to the outer stub and leave that mounted into the bearing hub assembly.

Correct, that will work. if you do remove the nut/shaft, when you reinstall the nut make sure you torqe the nut to the proper torque spec to insure their is the proper preload on the hub bearing.

Just dismantle the CV joint. It comes apart once you get the boot out of there and I think a snap ring or something... It's been awhile since I have repacked one.
