e-brake??

So I bought a 98 jimmy, I knew it needed new brakes before i bought it. I put new pads and rotors front and rear. I then found out that I needed new rear calipers (lots of smoke) after i test drove it as well as a scraping sound coming from both sides of the rear axle. I'm pretty sure it comes from the e-brake shoes.

This is the first rear disc brake job i've done, I tried making sure the shoes were centred, but there's still a scrap-scrap-scrap sound coming from both sides. It appears that the drums are adjusted to their minimum setting. Does anyone have any ideas or a good write up on how to set up the e-brake shoes?

Thanks

K.

RE: e-brake??

Before replacing the expensive parking brake shoes, take a look at the little sheet metal shims that are pressed onto the caliper bracket.

I had a scrapping sound when I did my rear brake service on my old Bravada and it was just these shims. I ended up reaching up along the rotor where it goes into the caliper bracket on either side with a long small flat blade screwdriver and bending the shim up to clear.

Drove me nuts until I finally got it fixed.

also check the brake plates-they deteriorate over time and salt-if it's been in any(mostly salt). I've seen them make noise. jp[X(]

It was the brake plate, well actually the ghetto rotors i bought, the old rotors didn't rub but the new ones did. a bit of the grinding got rid of most of the grinding. a little more trial and error will get rid of it all. Thanks for your help guys.
