These engines aren't designed to run on very little or no back pressure. if you had a more aggressive cam and did some other mods then it would run better on no back pressure. thats what i have been told anyways and my friend cut his muffler off on his blazer and lost some power so i know its true.

no, im going with a muffler, but the magnaflow ones arent really restrictive. im just wondering if i should cut the cat out too, or add a resonator instead, or just straight the pipe right out.

im not after power... just that annoying noise under the hood to go away without shutting the engine off. lol

I like the sound of the flowmaster 40 series on these trucks....not real loud (with a CAT still installed at least) and almost sounds like a mini v8 at idle, but doesn't sound like a tiny little buzzy v6 when giving her some pedal either. Just my .02

thing with magnaflow for me is the cheapest of cheap prices.

for my old lumina z34, i had a 3" pipe to a 5" resonator about 10" long, then a y pipe, two magnaflow mufflers and tips as well, all installed, bent and welded for $200.
