Engaging 4x4 when driving
Ok so this is my first 4x4
I have always always been told from my father to put the vehicle in neutral, engage 4x4 and proceed But after reading numerous posts some say that you shouldn't stop because of risk of getting stuck and yo click the 4hi button when driving is no problem Thoughts? I have the 3 button (2hi, 4hi, 4lo) 4x4 system btw |
Should have posted in steering suspension and drive train section..
But I sont see how to delete my post.. Damn newbs... lol |
Your thread is good in either section, but we can move it if you'd like.
To answer your question, you can be driving down the road at speed when making the mode transfer from 2HI to 4HI or vise-verse, but when making the range switch from 2HI to 4LO, you shouldn't be at much more than a crawl and the transmission should be in neutral. You definitely don't want to be under power for the range change into or out of 4LO and can't be going any great speed either. For the change into or out of 4HI, you can really be going any speed you'd like, but I have always found it best to be coasting (foot off the accelerator pedal). |
In and out of 4H at any speed as long as no wheel is spinning (loss of traction).
