Default Engine misfire

I have a 4.3 and replaced the intake manifold gasket, reinstalled the distributor to fire in the #1 cylinder on TDC. The engine starts, runs but misfires. I pulled a few of the wires off and there is spark. I have checked the timing and rechecked several times. Any suggestions?

Make sure the distributor rotor and cap are both on correctly and double check the wires' connections at the cap. Are you getting an SES code?

I checked the cap and wires, they are installed correctly. The SES light does come on and sets a PO300 code.

I had the same problem. I am assuming that when you installed the distributor at TDC the rotor was pointing at the little number 6 on the distributor. Pull your cap off pull up on the rotor and try to wiggle the distributor shaft if it moves at all replace your distributor.

Do you know if you use the first mark in the damper or second. I used the second mark on the damper so that one mark was at the 1 o'clock position and at the pointer on the timing cover and the other mark at the 5 o'clock position. I have chcked fuel pressure and for vacuum leaks, engine still sluggish and misfires.

I had two marks that lined up on my balancer, IIRC. I lined up both and stabbed the distributor. Fired right up.

Here is how you set it up. Pull the number 1 spark plug, LH front,(That is sitting in the drivers seat) put your finger over the hole have a friend turn the crank. When you start feeling pressure on your finger stop get a flashlight and get a good eye on the pointer on the front cover, have your friend continue turning the crankshaft and watch the marks on the balancer,(You will have 2 of them) Let the first one go bye and line up the second one with the pointer, pull your cap and look at your rotor button and it should be pointing at a little #6 on the casting of the distributor,if it is not pull the distributor and line the rotor button up with the little number 6 on the dist, and you should be good at that point.FYI you might have to turn the oil pump rod to get the dist. to fall into place. Hope this helps.
