Engine Temp Gauge

Hello, I have a 1995 Blazer with the 4.3L V6 and what seems to be the problem is that my temperature gauge will rise up close to the red line, (but has never reached it yet) and goes back down. It is very weird, the needle just goes close to the red line and goes back down. So I'm pretty much stuck, and I hope my engine will not actually overheat. Thanks.

Have you tested/changed your tstat to be sure its functioning properly? The temp sensors can go crazy on these things but I would start with the tstat first to be sure its functioning and its the gauge reading funny and not actually your motor running hot.

Could this cause my truck to run rough too?
