Exclamation Fluids for transfer case and front differential

Hi all:

I got a 1999 s10 blazer 4x4 (3 button) with automatic transmission and 4 wheel disc brakes.
From what i can see i think the front differential case has leaks at each of the axles.
01 do i just need to get new seals?

I also believe i have some kind of leak where the transmission connects engine (the bell housing) as i see fluid at the bottom where they connect there im not sure if its oil or tranny fluid.

the transmission dipstick shows way below minimum (barely registers at very tip)

im really confused about what fluids go where and how much

the rear differential gets 80-90 gear oil.
what about transfer case and front differential?

thanks

Since you have the 3 button transfer case I believe it just takes regular ATF and should hold about 2 quarts. The front dif is more than likely just the axle seals and they need replaced, it takes the same fluid as the rear dif. I prefer Mobile 1 75-90 Full synthetic but it's whatever you want. If you don't do full synthetic make sure you put the limited slip additive in it.

As far as the fluid at the bellhousing, it's a possibility that your rear main seal is leaking. I'm not sure if there is a seal there in the trans or not, maybe some other guys can chime in on that.

thanks for the quick info
i think i want to use the synthetic but i will need to use special gaskets (and dont use RTV)?

on a side note i cant seem to find a drain plug on the front differential.
i think i see the fill (bolt) but not sure

From what I read not all front dif's have a drain plug. If it does I believe it's on the drivers side while the fill plug is on the passenger side about mid way up the dif.

No special gaskets needed for synthetic. Most ppl just go and use RTV and are fine on the rear. I used RTV and bought a gasket from an auto parts store and it seemed to be just fine. Haven't noticed leaks yet.

If you're going to do the front and t-case I would suggest like a transfer pump or something like that. It makes putting new fluid in pretty easy. If you're front dif doesn't have a drain plug you will need one of these anyway to get the old fluid out.
