Flush Engine Collant
Ok so I have a 99 Blazer 4x4. I was just looking at my engine coolant and it seems to be a little low and have some debris in the top of thank. It looks like some sand or something, maybe just dirt. How can I flush all that out? I'm not very handy, but I don't really have the extra money to go to a mechanic either. If anyone could offer an easy, pretty much step by step way to do this I'd sure appreciate it.
Please run a search on 'flush'. You should find quite a bit of information including the proper procedure for draining the block if you want to go that far into it. I typically just use a garden hose, then right before I fill it back up, I flush through atleast 5 gallons of distilled water then drain it again. Once drained, put in 6 qts (half of the cooling system capacity) of straight coolant (not 50/50 mix) and top off with distilled water. This will give you the longest coolant life as well as the optimum 50/50 mix.
If you want, a good way to do it while its warm outside is to drain the system using the drain at the bottom of the passenger side radiator tank. Then fill it back up with water and drive it around for a day or so. Drain and repeat a few times before you do the final flush and refill with coolant/distilled water.
