front of fuel tank connector?
When I dropped my fuel tank a connector near the front of the tank broke. As far as I can tell, it connects to the "R" hose from the fuel pump.
Does anybody know this part # and if it is very important, i.e. can I just glue it back together if it is for gas vapors? Or does fuel actually travel down this line? Also, how do I go about taking this black plastic item out of the tank? |
What year truck?
Sounds like you broke the return line fitting off of the pump housing. Need to know the year to determine, but fuel systems normally consist of feed line, return line, and vent line. |
sounds like your vent valve. i did the same thing you cant see it until you break it.
a new vent valve is about $15 at the auto parts store. all it is for emmisions |
so can I just plug that hole and plug that line?
|
no sir, u can not plug that at all, that is your gas tank vent valve. It is tied in with your evap system and you will constantly have the code evap system control malfunction and will not pass emissions due to your system never being ready on your obd II vehicle. the gas tank vent valve is only 10 to 15 bucks depending on where u are located and buying it from

Don't have emissions, so no problems there. Thanks for the heads up on the check engine light staying on. That would have drove me nuts.
I bought the part already, should have it by Tuesday thanks to Amazon Prime. Anybody have any ideas on how to get the old one out? |
I think I have this problem also. I have a p0440 and when I take off the gas cap a lot of air escapes! This stopped happening in the winter it seems like but I still have the code.
Anyways is it possible to replace this without dropping the tank? How hard is it to drop the tank and how long did it take? Do you have to partially drop the tank to disconnect all the wires? How do you hold it up its gotta be pretty heavy? Thanks. |
it should twist counter-clockwise, then pull straight out. Just did this on mine.
|
what problems was it causing? did urs break off or just stop working?
|
Mine wasn't causing any problems, I had to drop my tank due to me messing up the fuel line to the filter. When I dropped it I had no idea of the vent and it snapped the connector off at the base.
