Front Hub assembly replacement help
 

1998 Blazer with 4wd. We've got a bad left front wheel bearing, so we've ordered the hub assembly from autohausaz and it'll arrive shortly.

Now, I've not worked on one of these before, and my tools and the vehicle are currently 550 miles apart. I'm helping out my stepfather on this job over Christmas (actually he's helping me, to be more accurate, although it's his car), and I don't have space in my car to bring my entire toolbox, since I'm carrying my wife, three kids and all our stuff with me in our E34 BMW sedan.

So if you guys could help me come up with the tool list, I'll shoehorn those into my car somehow. Pretty sure I need a torque wrench and a breaker bar, but socket sizes and what combination wrenches to bring would be a big help. And if somebody knows where to find a diy, I'd appreciate that too.

Perfect. Exactly what I needed.

So I have everything but a 36mm deep socket (I have a 36mm socket but it's not deep).

I'll have my stepfather look at the back side of the caliper so he can tell me what kind of caliper bolts secure it. I have the torx stuff b/c there's a lot of it on my bimmers.

12, 13, and 15mm should cover you for the rest of the job.

He has an E34. :icon_wink: BMW guys are sensitive to mix up like that.

a 36mm socket will take your oil filter off in your e36. my buddy has an e36 and I borrowed his 36mm socket to replace my hubs and cv's I'm pretty sure he got the socket at federated auto parts

check princess auto for that socket if you have one near you... i paid $30+ for mine only to find out i could have driven 5 more min and got it for $10

e34's are the 5 series. he also has a 97 328 thats an e36, I know my bmw's very well

Haha, I actually have an E30, an E34 and an E36. Benedict is right that a 36 mm will open the oil filter canister on the E36 that I have -- however, the one I had was not a deep socket, so to do the blazer job I had to buy a deep one. So now I have both a regular and a deep.
