Fuel Filter Question
 

So about 6 months ago I ventured into changing fuel pump as original one would not hold fuel pressure and caused hard warm starts.

I replaced fuel pump 6 months ago but not the filter as it won't come off!!!

I have sprayed it with PB Blaster every day for like 3 months.

I can still get flare wrench on it without slipping but it will not budge. Attached is a picture of the filter nut, the other side has the quick disconnect.

What should I do? If I can change fuel pump, the fuel filter should be easier!:icon_smash:

I have heard of people cutting it off. If you have been spraying it that much and it's still not coming off them I'm out of ideas. Maybe try soaking it over night. I changed mine for the 1st time a few weeks ago and luckily mine came off with minimum effort.

Looks like it will come right off, but use a line wrench, (flare nut wrench) NOT and open end wrench. Hold the flare nut still, and unscrew the filter from the nut. The filter will turn freely in the quick connect fitting. Flare nut is 16mm, the filter is 20mm.

That clamp on the fuel filter grips it real tight... take the clamp bolt loose from the frame & then the filter & clamp will turn together.

It's a pain as the clamp doesn't have much room to rotate... I think I loosened another line clamp to allow room without bending the line. Once I got the filter & clamp off, I was able to knock the filter out of the clamp. I put a little grease on the clamp when installing the new filter hoping it will be easier next time.

If you choose to you could (I've seen it done) cut/slit cut clamp, thus allowing you to turn the filter. Hold the small nut with vice grips or where I've had success is with the vice grips that have the 'nut' like jaws. In any event, hold the small end(tight), get on the large end (filter) with the proper snug fitting wrench and like the good Captain said, spin the filter off that way. Lube the threaded end of the line so that in the future you won't loose this way to get it off..Good luck...Jerry @ Peru Motors

Spent two hours this morning trying to get this filter off, no budge at all. I took it off the clamp and still does not move. I flushed it out with gas hoping to remove any debris in the filter as I think I am just going to leave it alone for now.

It runs perfectly, but I know that you are supposed to change fuel filter when you change pump.

try an oil filter wrench on the filter and a wrench on the nut. Try putting some sort of extension on one of the wrenches to get more torque
