Default Fuel Pressure Regulator

Ok, specs first: 2001 Blazer LT 4x4; V-6 4.3L; automatic 138,400 miles.

My question is what are the signs of a failing fuel pressure regulator. My Blazer's symptoms are in the morning it doesn't want to start on the first try. It turns over, and on the second try it catches but won't run. Almost always on the third try, it catches and fires right up. Afterwards, anytime during the day, it starts normally. Now I just replaced the distirbutor cap (which I replaced 2 years ago). I was talking to a mechanic friend and he said it could be the FPR. It does once in a while stumble (kinda coughs) but then nothing else out of the ordinary. This happens while driving. I haven't lost any power and acceleration is normal. Just starting first thing in the morning. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, JP

Now here is a question for all you fine folks in Blazer land: why is it that my truck won't start to the point my battery is drained and yet when someone jumps my truck, it starts on the third try?? I don't know if it is electrical (bad battery) or fuel system related. These things are way to complicated to work on. That's why mine is sitting in the shop! grrrrrrrrr.......... :-/

Well, after you followed the steps in the above post I linked to, what were the readings you got? You've got to give us something to go on, first.

You could have a weak pump that needs the voltage boost provided by another vehicle to give your engine the pressure it needs... But this is pure speculation. Using the information Rich already provided would give you the answer to where your problem lies...
