Fuel Pump OR Fuel pump relay? thoughts

Daughter comes over with her 2002 4 door
Goes to leave and no Start, just cranks. She tries about 3 times. I hop in and turn the key to RUN position no Fuel Pump Relay sound. I slide under the car and bang the gas tank a few times as my daughter goes to start it and it starts right up. At 107K miles what's more likely? Bad Pump or bad relay. maybe the banging on the tank was a coincidence and the relay was going to engage when I did it.

Intermittent problems are tough to diagnose, but usually, if banging on the tank gets the pump going, it indicates a worn armature in the pump motor, or a poor connection. OEM pumps are typically good for ~100K miles, it doesn't owe you a dime;) If that turns out to be the problem, install an AC Delco or Delphi pump. Don't waste your time or money on aftermarket stuff.
