Fuel pump/Sending unit

Fuel pump/Sending unit
this applies to 96-05 2/4 doors
just wondering if anybody has suscesfully removed a faulty fuel pump from the sending unit and replaced with a new pump in the same sending unit, and reinstalled using the samesending unit.
I just dont want to buy a $400 Sending unit when all i need is a $80 pump.

IIRC, Kyle has referenced doing it if you have the style pump that has the separate sending unit.

correct me if im wrong, but arent the 95's or older the only ones with seprate sendign units from the pumps. my 98 needs a pump, but you have to buy the whole sending unit (big $$$), i was wondering if anybody hacked open a sending unit to just replace the pump (small $$$).

I've got a 93 and it's separate.

never done it-thought about it. And you're right-up to and including 95 separate pump. 96 up complete unit. Not sure you can do it but you'll never learn any younger! Abviously you'd have to make sure the pressure provided is the same as yours. It does appear though that if creative enough it 'may' be possible. I myself would never want to do it on a customers vehicle cause you know who's phone would ring at midnight with a failing pump but on your own vehicle????The short answer is--done many fuel pump changeouts but never 'pump only' on a module unit.

I recently bought pump with sending unit for $75 on EBAY brand new for my 2001 Blazer.....only thing it took 8 days to get to me shipped through UPS....

Hope you don't mind changing fuel pumps often because a little research here will tell you that most aftermarket pumps for GM are crap including those from eBay. AC/Delco or Delphi are the only way to go for these vehicles.

I've got a spare assy for my '97 sitting in the garage (A delphi unit). The clear krinkle hose that runs from the pump to the top of the assy has a pin hole in it, but the pump is only 16 months old. If either my '97 or '01 pumps go again, I'm going to swap just the pump. They can be piece parted. I saw just the pump motor on GMPartsdirect dot com a few years back. Bosch also makes a pump for these trucks ('96 to '05).
The problem would be the hose I mentioned above. The hose is heat-shrunk onto the pump and the housing. I've seen similar fuel line hoses like this, but they're not the crinkle flex type, just the straight black feed and return line types. To fit the hoses, you soak them in hot water, then press them on to the fittings (NAPA fuel line hoses like the hose ends on the tank assembly - if you where to snap one off when removing the tank. (Ask me how I know)

well my thoughts would be if they sell the fuel pump seperate it should be possible to do, But i have to say i ordered a fuel pump assembly for my 98 jimmy off ebay way over a year ago and have never had a problem with it yet, i dont know if im just 1 of the lucky ones since i do read about a ton of them failing. But it was a company out of florida and they gave me a lifetime warrenty thru my shop on it against any failure so i figured what did i have to lose, plus these units only take roughly 45 minutes to change and to save 300 bucks i figured why not, come to 70 shipped to my door. just my luck tho like i said i have read 99 out of 100 fail after just a few months, but mine is about 16months old still has perfect pressure.
