Is it possible to replace just the sending unit? And can you get one new?

I assume your fuel gage is reading incorrectly? No, the pump and sending unit is all in one on these. The cheapest place is rockauto.com to get a new one. DO NOT get airtex, it will fail. Only delco or delphi.

Is it possible? Yes it is possible to replace the sending unit separately from the fuel pump itself. Is it practical? Not really since there is a very good chance that the pump isn't long for this world anyhow. Besides, there is actually more work involved with replacing the sending unit than there is in replacing the pump (marginally more, but more none the less).

AC Delco #SK1186 is the 4dr sending unit & #SK1188 is the 2dr. They run ~$92 +s&h. A new pump with a new sending unit will run you $220-$320 for the real deal AC Delco or Delphi pump.

Word of advice, test the sending unit before you install. I have installed a new fuel pump with a bad sending unit and had to redo it later, not something you want to do again once you finally get the pump back in.

I recently have replaced mine, I got my replacement sending unit from Ebay. around $20. but... as Swartlkk said about the fuel pump, i replaced mine about 2 weeks ago, and from the sounds coming from the pump mine is about to eat itself. so I have a new one on its way should be here next Wednesday and I will dropping the tank again.

my pump turned out to be a Airtex instead of Delphi but was able play musical parts to make it work.
swapped the arm and the connector wires.

I seem to recall an airtex lasting a month for me, I went with the bosh....which had the bad sending unit making me replace a third pump, again not a job you want to do twice.
