Fuel Tank Ground Strap HELP!!

So i have a 1998 4x4 4door Blazer and i was under it the other day replacing the top half of the fuel filler neck and a braided wire fell off the frame and my friend told me it was a grounding wire for the fuel tank, DO I NEED THIS!?!?! WHAT HAPPENS IF I DONT REPLACE IT??!?!?! HELP!?!?

It is not a ground for the fuel tank. It is for grounding static discharge to the frame when you refuel. For safety reasons, it needs to be there.

You should be able to go into most auto parts stores and get a ground strap the appropriate length. Worst case, a couple ring terminals and a piece of wire would suffice.

Anywhere you can screw it to the frame, just sand the frame down dirst for a good connection

It bolts to the top of the crossmember (the crossmember behind your bumper) on the driver side of the vehicle. Takes a 18mm wrench to get off.

I had to replace my fuel pump and with a half tank of gas it fell down and snap the wire off. I just used a new electrical terminal and bolted back on. Fixed my issue though.

maybe 8 mm 18 is pretty big

I may stand corrected on that one but it's the gas tank straps that I am thinking of that is 18mm for the bolt and the nut.
